Q&A's

What makes you different from other advisors?

We are a small, independent wealth management firm that treats our clients like our family. We believe in maintaining transparency with our clients and always put their interests ahead of our own. This philosophy has served us well, as we have built long-lasting relationships with clients across the country.

What is a Fiduciary?

We believe that our client’s interests come before the interests of any other party, including ourselves. As fiduciary advisors, we are legally obligated to act solely in the best interests of you and your family when providing financial advice.

Do you have an asset minimum?

We require a minimum portfolio value of $500,000 for our Wealth Management services. If your portfolio is below $500,000 then our Financial Planning  would be a good start. This gives us the flexibility to serve clients in all facets of life. Even if we are not the right fit, we may be able to help you find someone who can assist with your needs.

How are you compensated?

We are primarily a fee-based advisor meaning we are paid either a one-time or ongoing fees by our clients. Since we are affiliated with a broker-dealer, we can access commissioned-based products if the situation arises. Details and further information related to our firm's fees can be found in the firm's Form ADV links at the bottom of this page.

Who holds my money/assets?

As a client of WMS Advisors, your assets will be held by a third-party custodian such as Charles Schwab. We never take ownership of any of your assets, which remain in a separate account that you own. Your custodian will provide you with independent account statements showing all holdings and activity in your accounts.

What is a Registered Investment Advisor?

A Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) is an advisor or firm engaged in the investment advisory business. RIA’s are registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or state securities authorities. RIAs have a fiduciary duty to their clients. This means they have a fundamental obligation to provide suitable investment advice and always act in their client’s best interests.

Does WMS serve clients only in certain geographic areas?

We have offices in Rockville, Maryland, and Charlotte, North Carolina but serve clients all over the United States. We value the personal relationships we create with our clients both in person locally and virtually. We are always happy to work with you regardless of your location.

What is a CFP® Professional?

The CFP® certification process, administered by CFP Board, identifies to the public that those individuals who have been authorized to use the CFP® certification marks in the U.S. have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence when dealing with clients.

Do you prepare legal documents and/or file tax returns?

We do not prepare tax returns or legal documents, but we are happy to help you find a reputable accountant or attorney in your area through our extensive networks.
